Abstract

Background: Quality of life (QoL) is an essential indicator of how chronic disease impacts patients' lives, particularly for chronic kidney disease (CKD). While there is no statistically significant relationship between CKD stages and QoL, it is lower in individuals in the early stages of the disease.
Aim: evaluate the Quality of life of patients undergoing kidney hemodialysis in Zawia, Libya.
Material and Methods: Sixty-five patients with kidney disease or failure were included in the study, with 45% being female and 55% being male. The study used face-to-face interviews with the patients to collect data. The study focused on four parts: 1) social demographic data, 2) distribution of maintenance hemodialysis patients according to their quality of life, 3) distribution of Quality of life satisfaction and dissatisfaction levels under study, and 4) the relationship between the duration of dialysis, age, material status, and kidney disease quality of life satisfaction and dissatisfaction level.
Results: The study found that the majority of patients undergoing hemodialysis had a positive quality
of life. However, some patients experienced varying degrees of dissatisfaction with their Quality of life. There was a positive correlation between the duration of dialysis and the level of satisfaction with Quality of life. Older patients and those with lower material status tended to have a lower quality of life satisfaction.
Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of evaluating the Quality of life of patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis in Zawia, Libya. Despite the majority of patients having a positive quality of life, some patients may require additional support to improve their Quality of life. The results of this study can inform the development of targeted interventions to improve the Quality of
life of patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis.
